Epstein kicked off for Thunder to start the Claymores assault on the 2004 NFLE season but the Claymores struggled in the openinf series and were forced to punt the ball away.
Berlin fumbled and the ball was recovered by the Claymores deep in Thunder territory by Roundtree but a Jensen 45 yard effort was pulled left.
The Thunder took hope from this and drove the Claymores back but a missed 17 Yard Field Goal in difficult conditions left the teams scoreless as the first quarter ended.
Anes replaced Hybl at QB for the Claymores in the second quarter and connected with McCready for a big gain while Hicks ripped off a couple of good gainers at the Claymores started to look impressive and they took the lead when Anes tossed a 10 yard scoring pass to Tight End Marcus Helfman with Hart adding the extra point.
Thunder got on the board just before the two minute warning with a37 yard Field Goal, then as the Claymores were driving and in a scoring position, an Anes pass meant for Smith was tipped and intercepted giving Berlin the ball back.
The Berlin offense did not wast the opportunity and Rivers found his man in the endzone to leave the Scots behind 10-7 at half time.
With the conditions getting worse, Berlin pulled further ahead when Davey scampered in from six yards out thenthey padded their leadas the fourth quarter began with another Field Goal, this time from 43 yards, which bounced on the crossbar and crept over.
Hybl then led the Claymores down the field helped by great catches from Smart and McCready in a drive that took them to the Berlin 4. Hybl then tossed a pass into the endzone meant for Davis which was tipped and McCready made a fantastic adjustment to snag a sepectacular diving catch. Rob Hart added the PAT and the Scots were only 6 points behind.
The Claymores forced Thunder to punt and starting on thir own 20 they moved down the field with Smart picking up a couple of first downs . The Claymores moved the ball to the Thunder 48 yard line when a fumbled snap killed the comeback and handed Berlin their first opening day win ever.
