Saturday 11th May 2002  Amsterdam ArenA
BACK
The omens didnt look too good as the Claymores travelled to the noisy Amsterdam ArenA  where they had won their last road trip back in 2000. Possessions were exchanged early on but Tynes broke the deadlock with a 42 yard field goal after an interception had set it up.
Goodman was denied a deserved TD when the play was called back for a false start and Hart kicked the field goal. The Admirals were also finding it difficult to get into the end zone and had to settle for field goals as well, one on the back of a dodgy call on a catch that I thought was out of bounds, then one at the end of a drive which involved the Admirals going for it on fourth down and the play clock CLEARLY expired, yet somehow by magic reset itself at 25 seconds!!!
The second half started with defences on top again but Cooper of the Admirals and Goodman for the Claymores were eating up the yards on the ground but the Admirals took the lead for the first time when Daft picked out Hambrick for 16 yards and althought the Claymores argued he was out of bounds the refs gave the touchdown.
This sparked the Claymores and Dreisbach, who had a fine game capped it with a 42 yard pass to Gilliam who dived and pulled it into the endzone to put the Claymores in front with Rob Hard adding the extra point.
The defence held firm and forced the Admirals to punt and got the ball back deep in their own territory at the two minute warning, three running plays didnt kill the game and a good punt and coverage(even though a blatant hold wasnt called on the runback) pinned the Admirals with no timeouts, they moved the ball but stalled and the game hinged on a 54 yard field goal attempt which would have won the game for the Amsterdam side. O'Donnells kick was short and the Claymores ran out time for a vital win.
An important win here in Amsterdam, and a vast improvement from last week. The Defence was excellent again and Dreisbach showed great poise and character but my MVP was Goodman who racked up in impressive 105 yards.
